In the past decade, considerable progress in understanding tokamak core turbulence and transport has been made thanks to advances in experimental measurements, numerical simulations, and nonlinear theory. In this presentation, after a brief description of properties of tokamak core turbulence, important role of self-organized structures in plasma confinement and performance will be illustrated. Outstanding remaining problems will be discussed at the end.
