Wigner Crystals in the Lowest Landau Level

본문

Wigner crystal is an emergent state of electrons with spontaneous breaking of continuous translational symmetry in the extreme limit of strong correlation. The search for a Wigner crystal had prompted intense attentions to two-dimensional electrons under strong magnetic field, leading to an important byproduct known as the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE). We show that the solid phase between the 1/5 and 2/9 fractional quantum Hall states arises from an extremely delicate interplay between various Wigner crystals of composite fermion (CF), clearly demonstrating its nontrivial, strongly correlated character.
