ABSTRACT:

Since the discovery of 40 K-superconductivity in MgB2, there has been a lot of renewed interest in the “unusually high-Tc” phonon-mediated superconductivity in hexagonal layered compounds. In this talk, I will review recent investigations on two classes of newly discovered superconducting systems, (1) Alkaline-earth intercalated graphites and (2) (Ca,Sr)AlSi. In these compounds, like MgB2, the hexagonal layers of light elements are intercalated by alkaline earth atoms. Depending on the elements consisting of the honeycomb layer, however, the relevant electronic and phononic states for the superconductivity are quite different, which results in several interesting physical properties such as superconducting gap anisotropy (multi-gap) and phonon softening. These findings demonstrate the variability of the electron-phonon coupling routes in honeycomb layered compounds.
