Controlling ultrafast processes in molecules
with intense two-color laser  pulses

*Abstract

Combining the fundamental frequency of femtosecond laser pulses with its second harmonic (? + 2?) produces waveforms which lack spatial inversion symmetry in a way similar to few-cycle pulses with a stable carrier-envelope phase (CEP). Such
asymmetric laser pulses, as well as attosecond pulse trains (APTs) generated by
them, can be used for controlling various ultrafast processes in molecules. I will
present three examples of such control: (i) field-free orientation of heteronuclear
diatomic molecules; (ii) asymmetric dissociation of molecular hydrogen with (800 + 400) nm femtosecond pulses; and (iii) infrared-assisted asymmetric dissociation of molecular hydrogen with APTs produced by (? + 2?) pulses. I will also discuss the underlying mechanisms of such two-color control.
